Can you believe we are already on the countdown to Easter? It feels like Spring has finally sprung, the garden is full of beautiful Daffodils and new life is starting to appear. This can only mean one thing...... the school holidays are upcoming and Easter is on the way!
Well..... I don't know about you but as much as I am well aware of this, I always seem to be on the back foot, sat the night before frantically putting together an Easter Egg Hunt for my girls so..... I thought what better than a blog post on creating the best Easter Egg Hunt!
Whether you're planning a small backyard search or a grand neighbourhood event, a little preparation can make it a magical experience for kids and adults alike. Here’s your ultimate guide to hosting a fun and stress-free Easter egg hunt:
1. Plan the Perfect Location
The first step is choosing the right location. Whether it’s your garden, local park, or even indoors, make sure the space has plenty of hiding spots while remaining safe for children to explore.
Outdoor hunts work best in gardens, parks or spacious fields. Be mindful of uneven ground and potential hazards.
Indoor hunts can be just as fun! Hide eggs in bookshelves, under cushions or in decorative baskets.
Community hunts in larger areas can be great for group participation—just be sure to set clear boundaries to keep things organized.

2. Pick Your Eggs & Prizes
Easter egg hunts aren’t just about chocolate! Mix things up with different kinds of eggs and surprises. In previous years, I have gone out and bought loads of eggs for the hunt and after a while, they end up left in the cupboard with the girls asking for their 'regular' chocolate. I have decided this year to buy their 'regular' chocolate and just buy an egg for the final egg hunt prize. This will also be more cost effective as i'm simply buying ahead what they have anyway.
Chocolate Eggs & Sweets – A classic favorite! Make sure to include a variety to suit different tastes.
Plastic Fillable Eggs – Perfect for hiding small toys, stickers, or even notes with fun challenges - not everything has to be chocolate. Home Bargains have a fantastic Easter section full of Easter based crafts that don't cost the earth.
Personalized or Golden Eggs – Add excitement by including a special golden egg with a grand prize!

3. Create Fun Egg Hunt Clues & Challenges
For an extra layer of excitement, turn your hunt into a scavenger adventure! Here are some creative ideas:
Color-coded hunts – Assign different egg colors to different age groups to make it inclusive for all.
Riddle clues – Leave simple rhymes or hints leading to the next egg.
Easter-themed challenges – Ask kids to complete small tasks like hopping like a bunny or singing a song before they find the next clue.

4. Decorate & Set the Scene
Transform your space into an Easter wonderland with fun decorations:
Bunny banners & balloons – Add festive charm to your egg hunt area.
Easter baskets & buckets – Provide kids with cute collection baskets.
Themed table settings – If you’re hosting an Easter brunch afterward, use pastel tableware, spring flowers, and bunny-shaped napkins.

5. Keep It Fair & Fun for All Ages
To ensure everyone has a great time, consider these fair play rules:
Set a time limit so everyone gets a chance to find eggs.
Give younger kids a head start before older children join in.
Limit the number of eggs per child so no one is left empty-handed.
6. Capture the Memories
Don’t forget to snap some photos! Create a fun photo booth with Easter props like bunny ears, oversized eggs, and spring-themed backdrops. This makes for great keepsakes and social media posts!

7. End with an Easter Treat Table
After all the excitement, reward the little hunters with a delightful Easter treat table featuring:

Fruit platters with bunny-shaped snacks
Mini sandwiches & juice boxes
This gives everyone a chance to relax and enjoy the celebration together.
